Beef LoPresti

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 sprigs fresh garlic
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 portabella mushrooms
  • 1 can stout beer (Guiness, for example)
  • pepper to taste
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped broccoli
  • cooked rice or pasta
Put beef in cast iron skillet and divide with turner (or spoon or whatever you are using) into small meatball-shaped chunks. Cook beef covered on medium low until brown (about 15 minutes). While cooking beef, prepare other ingredients: peel and mash each sprig of garlic; chop broccoli into bite sized chunks; same with mushrooms. Drain beef fat and put skillet with beef back on burner. Add mushrooms, garlic, beer, pepper and bay leaf, cover and cook for another 30 minutes. Add the broccoli and cook for another 5 minutes. Turn off the heat. Find the bay leaf and remove. Serve over hot, cooked rice or pasta.
